Walking through H&M earlier I was struck by how much colour there was in the kidswear, and all the wonderful combinations that very few could get away with over the age of 11. In tweeting about this I was then reminded of my look for today, which I hadn't really been sure about from the start; mainly because I only left myself 10 minutes to dress after 50 minutes of hair masks, exfoliation, and general facial grooming; and I'm someone who needs time to fully assess their styling options and final decision before I can leave the house. (Seriously, people who can roll out of bed and happily throw on any T and jean combination infuriate me.)
Anyway, after tweeting that I thought I "just look very gay, in what's verging on questionable blocking", I was told to confirm my "gayitude" with visual evidence, resulting in a couple of very positive tweets from Michael (@AnastasiaDuck), one of which saying I "could be in a reformed S Club 7", which is probably the best thing anyone's said to me so far this month. So, after putting the quick iPhone/mirror photo on twitter and receiving that praise, I thought it'd be an idea to go into a bit more detail.
I really don't know why I was so unsure about it in the beginning, a lot of what I have on are some of my favourite pieces; it must have been something to do with the leather jacket I had on at the start of the day being too much black, combined with the time issue.
Partially because I'm a slave to cliché, and partially because chronology makes me happy, I'll start with the shoes.
I've been fond of a Doc for a while now, starting with the navy blue sandals when I was 4, through to the high leg, steel toe black boots I wore throughout lower 6th, and now on to these beautiful creatures. I do agree that some (would it be too much to say pseudo-) fashion folk put far too much meaning onto shoes, but when it comes to a brand like Dr Martens, they're worth every hyperbolised gushing word.
Slowly moving up, we have a black Cheap Monday skinny jean, bright blue sleeveless T from H&M (which I was originally thinking of bleaching, but I think I like it as is), canvas shopper (or is it a tote? I can never remember) with green leather handles from Zara SS11, and my latest purchase, the Spitfire sunglasses.
Sunglasses have been a bit of an obsession of mine for a couple of years, but I tend to keep a limit of £25, as they'll most likely be lost within a year (mostly left on self-service checkouts in recent months). Thankfully, I have ASOS, and in this case the Lazy Oaf store to provide me with Spitfire's slightly unusual, but always affordable take on things.
I love this pair, but I have to be careful in the styling to make sure I don't look too Dame Edna/Über gay/Please, punch me now.
Not that they're visible in the original picture, but I'm also wearing a Carolyn Massey for ASOS necklace, which I bought in the sale this January, and an ASOS ear cuff. Oh, and I'm drinking a tall, skinny caramel macchiato with sugar free vanilla.
So, that's all from me for today. Apologies for the ridiculously long sentences, I tend to get a bit ramble-y; also, I'm not quite sure how to do the whole labels and links thing yet, so for now anything I mention you'll have to cut and paste, but I'll make sure to put all the requisite details so you can get to things easily.
Oh, and do check out anastasia-duck.com. It's a great blog for anyone interested in fashion, food, travel, Moomins... anything really, plus he's got a great competition going over the next few days if you like clothes and booze, which, if you're reading my stuff, I'm guessing you do.
Another "oh", thank you to the people of Primark today for not openly mocking me as I walked around taking pictures of myself in the mirrors; I tried to be inconspicuous, but with a phone camera and my shake, a quick, inconspicuous photo of any quality really isn't possible.
DSH. x
